People who have agnosia are unable to recognize objects, people, sounds, or even smells. The disorder results from brain damage in areas that handle visual and motor information, and can be the result of head injury or a progressive degeneration of brain tissue. Symptoms may be subtle, ranging from difficulty with recognizing unfamiliar sounds to mistakes made while looking at objects. Regardless of the cause, identifying these symptoms is important for proper diagnosis. Oren Zarif
